The music of CCR has always been in tune with the era of Vietnam for me.  Really, to many to name.  Good stuff.  I am new to the forum and love the music of the time.
Hey, welcome, Music Man!  CCR sure had a distinctive sound, all right.  I remember listening to Proud Mary for the first time on the car radio on a side street in Frankfurt, West Germany, after I had returned from Vietnam.  I remember thinking it was great stuff.  Jammin' Guitar

Midnight special is my favorite CCR song.  :)

Welcome to the station Music Man.  Although the name  "Music Man" always makes me think:

"We got trouble.  Right here in River city.  With a capital T and that rhymes with P and that stands for Pool"

Yup, we did Nix, thanks to you.  There were so many good bands back in the day.  The Beatles, Doors, The Who, The Guess Who, The Moody Blues, Led Zeppelin and of course more...  Brings me back to my lost youth.  Oh well, time marches on.  Glad to be part of the group.  Take care all..

I've added some new favourite song to my personal playlist.
Here's the list:

searchers - love potion number nine
knickerboxers - lies
animals - when I was young
hollies - stop, stop, stop
herman's hermits - there's a kind of hush (etc)
outsiders - time won't let me
yardbirds - heart full of soul (*)
the grass roots - bella linda (**)
paul revere & raiders - kicks
beatles - I feel fine
critters - mr dieingly sad
lettermen - sealed with a kiss
johnny rivers - seventh son
ten years after - I'd love to change the world
beatles - day tripper
animals - cc ryder
byrds - here without you

(*) I discovered just a few days ago that Chris Isaak did a cover of this song from Yardbirds
(**) Actually a cover of a song from italian songwriter Lucio Battisti (the original name was "balla linda" which means "Dance, Linda"). I think the Grass Roots version IS better.

What do you think?  Smiley

johnny rivers - seventh son
Hi, Paul --

Have you ever heard the Seventh Son by Mose Allison?  I prefer it to the Johnny Rivers version, but that is just my taste.  It is more in the authentic, New Orleans, jazzy blues style.  You can listen to a sample at:  http://www.amazon.com/gp/dmusic/media/sample.m3u/ref=dm_sp_smpl?ie=UTF8&catalogItemType=track&ASIN=B000UBMHJQ&CustomerID=A2K4FBSS0RP0PK

Yep it's good! I've never heard it in a jazzy version.
Sometimes I play myself a lot these songs with my guitar so I prefer in some way the "garage" version.
But I'll have Allison's version too. Many thanks for this hint. Really cool...

Er... ummm....not sure about that one but there's none on Radio V. Actually Jimmy Cliff is really the closet I come to anything I would call island music, which brings me to thinking maybe I should toss No Woman, No Cry on in my upcoming music change-up. Smiley

Ska was virtually unknown in this country (the US) until long after the Vietnam war ended.  I think Nix is trying to keep the music of the station thematic, i.e., from the era of the Vietnam War - norminally 1965 to 1975 - although I prefer to declare the Vietnam Era as being 1961 (when the first US troop units began arriving in country) to 1973 (when the last US troops left).
